Emma frowned. That was why she didn’t want to fall in love. How could you lose yourself so much to one person that you couldn’t go on living without them? What about Jake? What about the love they had for him? Didn’t that warrant staying alive?
“Natalie said you have been working from here,” she said, dispelling the anger with a harsh exhale.

Emma followed him through the house trying not to look at the walls of photographs along the way. She didn’t want to see seven-year-old Jake grinning at her with his missing two front teeth. She didn’t want to see him dressed in his cap and gown and hugged by two older people who obviously adored him. She didn’t want this insight into his life.
