Chapter 50 Don't Leave Me
After returning to Regalis Villa, Adeline fell ill. A persistent high fever confined her to bed.
The fever came and went, leaving her on the brink of delirium. Christopher's private doctor visited several times and only left after her temperature was finally stabilized.
By then, it was evening, and the sky was awash in hues of orange and yellow. The evening breeze fluttered the white curtains of the floor-to-ceiling windows as Adeline lay on the bed, deep in sleep.
Christopher sat on the couch nearby, his eyes fixed intently on her sleeping face.
Adeline had a dream. In it, she was back to a time before she turned ten. It was a time when she had everything.
Back then, she had been the true heiress of the Keller family, carefree and full of joy. She wished that her current life was just a dream. She would rather remain lost in this dream and never wake up.
A tear slipped from the corner of her eye, and Christopher caught the glimmer of it. He quickly moved to her bedside. Adeline,
