The caves smelled a bit pungent, a bit musty, as if some mould or fungus was growing in its deepest recesses. I’d bet that constantly being here would make me claustrophobic because of the smell overwhelming every other sensation. I tried to focus on my steps and the feel of the cave walls around me than the permeating stench.
We pass a couple of empty cells, the rooms dingy and miserable. I notice there are a few full cells as well, their occupants lying or sitting on the floor. Their vacant eyes stared back at me, as if they’d accepted that their ends would be met in these prison cells. They looked forlorn and pitiable, losing all their way to live. Skin hung from their bones, several with irreversible traces of inflicted torture. I turned my eyes away from all of them. Werewolf law was tough but incredibly just.
