We climb down the stairs and enter the forest line together, our steps in tandem like we had done the same almost two decades ago. Without thinking about the clothes, we have on our bodies, we shift in our wolves. A large golden-brown wolf lands by my side and without checking if he’s ready, I start running through the deep forest which I had memorized more than two decades ago. My brown wolf leaps over fallen trees, swerves around broken branches, and tackles obstacles like it’s second nature. My eyes flit to the shadow of the wolf running beside me and I can see how Aaron’s maintaining the same pace as me. He’s the beta of the back, used to training and running miles to track down rogues and other enemy wolves while I have been severely out of practice. So, it’s not a shock when I see him running parallel with me even when I increase my speed.
