Hubert felt a wave of guilt wash over him as he realized how hurt Thora must have been when she overheard his mother's harsh words.
"Mom, it's not that Thora can't have children. It's me who never wanted kids. I hate taking on responsibilities. And we've divorced; it was my fault," he said, his voice heavy.
With that, he ended the call abruptly.
He gazed out of the window, watching as Thora entered the subway. Before stepping on, she didn't even glance back.
