Chapter 23 Coincidence

Marjorie suddenly felt the food in her mouth turned bland like melted wax. Stephen noticed her expression when he returned from the washroom and could not help asking, "What's wrong?" Marjorie pursed her lips in the direction of his phone. "Check your phone. Your lover called just now." Stephen's expression turned solemn. He quickly picked up his phone and saw the missed call from Carolyn. "She's not my lover." With that, he got out of his seat and strode over to the side of the room, dialing Carolyn's number. A few moments later, he returned and explained, "Marjorie, something urgent has come up. I need to go back to the office to take care of some stuff. I'll ask someone to send you home." Judging from the anxious look on his phone, Marjorie easily guessed that something had happened to Carolyn. She did not seem at all surprised by this and instead replied, "Just go. I can find my own way home." Marjorie had already gotten used to Stephen's disappearance every time his ph
