Elodie gave him a sideways glance. ‘Do you even need to ask?’
Ari’s laugh, smooth as a velvet saxophone solo, filled the car.
For a moment, his eyes lingered on hers, a flicker of something unspoken passing between them before he looked away.
Elodie leaned back, the leather seat moulding to her curves.
Tension eased from her shoulders, replaced by a strange sense of… comfort? Unnerving and unexpected.
The drive home was a blur of city lights.
Ari pulled up to her door.
‘So,’ he began, his voice a low rumble, ‘tomorrow? Resort project details?’
Elodie raised an eyebrow. ‘Pushy, Moretti. I like that. Meet me at my office at 10:30. My assistant will work you into the schedule. And bring your portfolio. Let’s see if your past investments live up to your charm.’
Ari’s smile faltered slightly.
He’d hoped for an invitation inside.
But Elodie simply patted his shoulder.
‘Thanks for the ride,’ she said, her voice tinged with a hint of something more. ‘Good night.’
