The next morning, Ari drove Elodie to work.
‘Thanks.’ She leaned over to kiss him as the car pulled up outside Northstar.
‘I’ll walk you in,’ he said at the same time as his phone rang.
Elodie caught a glimpse of the caller ID—Jay.
‘It’s fine. You should probably take that.’ She got out of the car.
Ari watched her enter the building and disappear into the lobby, his fingers drumming the steering wheel.
Neither of them talked about the call from Gabriel last night, yet both realised that something had changed between them.
Though she made it clear that there was nothing remotely romantic between her and Dashiell, Ari couldn’t shake the feeling that his former friend turned rival would remain a part of Elodie’s life for some time to come.
For starters, there was the joint hotel project.
