Dashiell shrugged. ‘You don’t owe me thanks. I did it because I wanted to.’
Their eyes locked for a long beat.
Dashiell looked away first, clearing his throat. ‘Actually, I was there on business. Checking on the hotel construction progress.’
Elodie blinked, surprised. ‘Oh.’
She wasn’t sure what she’d expected, but it wasn’t that.
‘Thank you,’ she repeated, not knowing what else to say.
‘Who was that crazy woman, anyway?’
‘No idea. But the police will find out.’ Her voice hardened. ‘And I’ll make sure she pays for what she did.’
Gabriel wasn’t at Sanctum, but the nurses and doctors there knew Elodie well.
‘Don’t worry, we’ll make sure he’s okay,’ Dr Marc Keach, head of General Surgery, said before rushing Dash to the OR.
Elodie paced in the waiting room.
Every creak of the door had her head snapping up.
