‘Really?’ She was sceptical.
‘Really. The plane was flying so low, almost skimming the surface of the ocean. Those who fell didn’t have far to drop, including us.’
Elodie’s fingers curled tightly around the fabric of her torn blouse. ‘I guess you are right. We are lucky.’
‘And don’t worry.’ Ari squeezed her shoulder. ‘We’ll soon be found. The Tyrrhenian Sea is crawling with islands, tourists everywhere. Rescue teams will be all over it. We’ll be spotted soon, for sure.’
Elodie nodded, but a disquieting thought gnawed at her.
Over three hundred souls on board, and she and Ari were the only ones who seemed to have landed on this particular speck of sand.
‘Maybe we should do a sweep of the island in the morning,’ she suggested. ‘See if there are other survivors.’
Ari hesitated.
‘That’s unlikely,’ he finally said. ‘I did one after I woke up. But I guess we can do another, just to be sure.’
‘Why unlikely? You found me, after all.’
