‘Don’t mess this up,’ Sebastian had warned Vivienne. ‘Don’t disappoint me again.’
‘As if I need that reminder,’ she muttered to herself.
Vivienne waited with bated breath.
Her heart quickened when she glimpsed Elodie coming down the hallway at a brisk walk, then disappearing into one of the wards.
‘This is it.’ She tried to calm down her too-fast pulse.
There was a faint ache in her stomach.
Probably nerves.
Vivienne tapped her foot on the concrete floor and fought the urge to just bolt.
Finally, the door of the ward swung open, and Elodie emerged.
She was focused on her phone, typing something as she walked with her back towards Vivienne.
Seizing the moment, Vivienne sneaked out of the stairwell, her footsteps light and calculated.
There were several medical personnel in the corridor, but Vienne’s white lab coat allowed her to blend in.
Trying to be as quiet but as quick as possible, she closed the distance.
