40. ANGEL
Warm skin brushed mine when I moved.
I opened my eyes and blinked at Nate’s face that hovered above mine.
He smiled at me and reached up to move some strands of hair away from my forehead.
“Hi, how are you feeling?”
I blinked at him.
It was a good question but one I couldn’t answer at the moment because I didn’t know how I felt.
I had seen my life flashing through my eyes when I was faced with death. A man had stabbed me after he apologized and told me that he had to do it to protect his family.
Reaching up, I frowned when Nate gripped my wrist and guided my hand to my other shoulder.
“He stabbed you this side,” he said softly, pressing my fingertip to my skin. “It’s already healed.”
“H-how?” I croaked. “D-did you give me some of your b-blood.”
Nate swallowed loudly and then shook his head. “It’s a little more complicated than that.”
I frowned at him.
“I’ll try my best to explain things to you, honeybee.”
He sat up, making my attention turn to our surroundings.
