Luca stood on the edge of the training ground with tightened and trembling fists as he stared into the distance. The weight of Zone’s death took a toll on him. His father—a warrior, a leader, a protector—was gone. The thought burned in his chest, twisting into a fiery resolve. He had to act. Anything would do.
The sound of boots on the ground drew his attention, and he looked up to see Ardan approaching. His jaw tightened as Ardan neared, the alpha’s expression solemn and heavy with unspoken words.
“Luca,” Ardan began softly, his voice low and careful.
But Luca was already on his feet with his eyes blazing with anger. “Don’t,” he spat. His voice was sharp and cutting. “Don’t pretend you care. You were supposed to protect him. You were supposed to lead us!”
Ardan froze, Luca’s words hitting him like a blow. “Luca, I—”
“You failed him!” Luca shouted, his voice cracking with grief. “You failed my father, and now he’s gone!”
