Old Acquaintances
‘I’m heading to check on the cholera patient,’ Callie said.
Her promise to the boy had been delayed by her demanding schedule.
Finally freed up, she wanted to ensure he was doing better.
‘All right, I’m running on fumes. I’ll take off first.’ Wendy yawned once more before making her way to her accommodations for some well-deserved rest.
Entering the isolation ward, Callie found Jamison tending to the boy.
The boy turned, his eyes alight with recognition. ‘Doctor Hawthorne!’
Jamison’s gaze followed the boy’s, landing on Callie.
She gave a small nod of acknowledgement before approaching the bed. ‘Dr Garcia, how’s he doing?’
‘No more vomiting. His condition has stabilised,’ Jamison replied, sliding his stethoscope into his coat pocket.
The boy’s pallor hadn’t completely lifted, but at least his expression was less tormented than it had been in the morning.
Gratitude filled his voice as he addressed both Callie and Jamison. ‘Doctors, thank you. I’m feeling much better.’
