It wasn’t until Ethan saw Vera’s face beneath the veil that his expression shifted dramatically.
His parents glared at him, their eyes cold and warning. His father, Qi, leaned in, his voice barely a whisper, urgent and threatening. “Don’t embarrass us in front of everyone.”
Ethan’s face drained of color, and the guests began to murmur, sensing something was wrong with the groom.
He stood frozen, like a puppet on strings, staring at Vera. His gaze was ice-cold.
Vera, in contrast, looked at him with a shy smile. Even though the man in front of her didn’t love her, she had him now. In time, she’d get everything she needed.
Lucas got out of the car and waved at Ethan.
Ethan’s eyes flicked over to him, and in that instant, he saw me standing beside him. Without a second thought, he abandoned Vera, still standing on the stage, grabbed the microphone from the host, and shouted toward me, “Summer, I love you! Please, give me one more chance—marry me!”
