Inside a dim space, Jade held her knees, sitting at the bedside. Nobody knew if it was because of fear or sadness, but she was shuddering.
The chill spread all over her body. The room froze over like an igloo.
Zephaniah pushed the door and got in. With the light from the living room, he stared at the skinny figure on the bed. His throat was extremely dry. He raised his hand and touched the switch on the wall, but Jade sensed it, and she stopped him with a hoarse voice. “Don’t turn on the lights.”
He let go and put down his hand to the side. After he closed the door behind him, he went into the darkness, and he turned on the room heater.
