I recalled that Gordon had said something similar on the day Chris and I were supposed to get our marriage certificate.
He had taken me to the marital home that Chris had prepared for us, but it ultimately led to Chris and me parting ways. Gordon had been blaming himself ever since and apologized countless times. That seemed to be something he'd never get over, especially now that Chris was gone.
He had lived out his life alone, in solitude.
Though I didn't know what Chris had asked Gordon to give me, I didn't want Gordon to live with guilt for the rest of his life. So, I agreed to go with him.
Just then, Lisa interrupted nervously, "Where are you off to? It's your wedding day. Don't try anything funny."
I grinned. "Are you worried I'll run away from the wedding and you'll have to answer to Brandon? How much did he pay you to keep an eye on me?"
She playfully hit me and said, "Stop joking around! I'm being dead serious. I don't think you should go, and Chris—seriously—he's dead
