I took a sip of water. "You should ask him about that. And... I'm not interested in anyone at the moment."
His expression was indifferent. "You don't need to remind me again."
"I'm just stating the facts," I said, and then I coughed a couple of times. Chris patted my back.
"Does Brandon know what happened to you?" Chris asked, his words piercing my heart.
I held the cup, feeling the warmth of the water spreading through my body. But it couldn't dispel the chill in my heart. "He came and left."
Chris didn't say anything else, and I handed the cup back to him. "I'm tired. I'll take a nap."
I lay down, and Chris sat there in silence. I was running a fever, and my eyelids were heavy. Just as I was about to fall asleep, I heard Chris say, "You didn't seem to be in as much pain when we broke up."
