When Conrad finally showed up, I was waiting for him by the car. He'd jumped in when I needed help earlier, and I wanted to thank him for that.

I gave a small smile. "If you hadn't stepped in, I'd probably be heading to the hospital right now."
"I wouldn't bet on it. That kick you threw was no joke. I'd say his insides are twisted up like a pretzel," Conrad said, making me laugh. "Maddie, your kicks are still as lethal as ever."
His comment totally brought me back to my school days. There were always boys trying to push me around, but I'd just kick them without thinking twice. Eventually, they started calling me "Thunderfoot".
I didn't want to dwell on those memories, so I smiled and changed the subject. "Conrad, I didn't expect to see you here with this company, too."
