Even when someone messed up, Xander never called them out or scolded them. He'd just gently point out their mistake, saving them from embarrassment while nudging them to improve.
That was how he became the superior everyone loved. He always seemed laid-back, yet somehow everyone worked their butts off for him.
"I feel guilty if I slow down for even a second, Mr. Roulder," I joked.
Xander laughed. "But I've never pressured you, right? Plus, there's always work to do, so what's the rush?"
He was the first superior I'd met who actually cared about his team not burning out. Since he was so thoughtful, it felt wrong not to accept his kindness.
I smiled back and said, "Alright. I'll keep that in mind."
Instead of signing the documents I handed him, Xander started making small talk. "You've lost a lot of weight. Are you feeling okay?"
We weren't close, but he acted like we were old friends ever since we met. Still, I always kept things professional and kept my distance.
