Helen's heart clenched. Had something happened to Julien?
She pulled out her phone and dialed the number he had called from the night before, but the call didn't go through—it was turned off. Feeling more anxious, she scrolled to her blacklist, unblocked his old number, and tried calling again. Still, no one answered.
Her hands shook as she ran to the security booth at her apartment complex. Pointing at Julien's car, she asked, her voice trembling, "Do you know anything about that car? It's been parked there all day. Did you see the owner?"
The security guard nodded. "Oh, the owner of that black car? Yes, I know. This morning, someone found him unconscious in the car and called an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital."
"Unconscious?"
"Yeah, apparently he was in a car accident and lost a lot of blood. For some reason, he didn't go to the hospital right away and just stayed in the car. One of the residents noticed him this morning, completely motionless, and called for help."
