Chapter 561
In the end, Marcus stormed off, slamming the door in anger.
Helen didn't feel much better. Her limbs felt weak—it was the first time in her life she had such a heated argument with anyone, let alone Marcus.
That evening, she returned the birthday gift Marcus had given her. She had never unwrapped or used it; the packaging was still intact. When she handed it back to him at the door, he frowned and asked, "Do you really have to do this?"
"I can't accept something I didn't earn. It's better if you take it back." She had looked up the price of the earrings—they weren't cheap, costing more than her annual salary. After their argument, it seemed impossible for them to remain friends, so she thought it best to return the gift.
"Helen, I don't take back gifts I've given."
"And I don't like accepting gifts for no reason, especially ones this expensive. Do whatever you want with it—I won't keep it."
Helen left the gift at the door and walked away without looking back at Marcus' expression
