Samuel's expression was unreadable, and he didn't answer Shelmaine's question. Shelmaine felt as though her words had landed on cotton—soft and ineffectual.
"What were you thinking when you married me? Did you find it amusing? Or did you think I was so foolish and easy to manipulate?" Shelmaine's voice was choked with emotion.
Her vision was blurred by her tears, and her chest felt heavy and tight.
Samuel replied, "I didn't mean to bully you."
He was truly concise, unwilling to say even one extra word.
Shelmaine was about to speak when the sudden sound of a phone ringing interrupted her.
It was Samuel's phone.
Samuel muttered an apology and glanced at the screen.
His expression changed slightly when he saw that it was a call from Natasha's manager.
Shelmaine's frustration grew. "You should take the call. Handle your business first."
Samuel looked at her and said, "I have some things to deal with. Rest here for now, and we'll talk later."
