The paintbrush clattered to the floor, slipping from Olivia's suddenly numb fingers. She fixed a thousand-mile stare at her hand, willing it to stop shaking, but the tremors intensified. A wave of dizziness washed over her, forcing her to grip the edge of her easel for support.
"Not now," she whispered, her barely audible voice sounding almost out of place in the silent studio. "Please, not again."
It had been happening more often in the last few weeks: moments of weakness, unexplained pain, and bone-deep fatigue that no amount of rest seemed to cure. Olivia had been brushing these symptoms to the back of her mind, focusing instead on her upcoming exhibition and a new chapter of life she was determined to embrace.
Dizziness was clearing, and Olivia took a shaky breath before she bent to get her fallen brush. The movement sent shocking pain through her side, and she gasped at it, clutching at her ribs.
