Chapter 23: Nathan's Curiosity
The soft murmur of voices reached Nathan's ears from the open door of his office, providing a pleasant background noise to the monotonous tapping of his keyboard. The quarterly report had him buried deep inside its cruel clutches when a phrase caught his attention, jerking him out of his financial reverie.
".suppose to be some exhibit. That artist, what's she called? Olivia something?"
Nathan's fingers seemed to suddenly turn ice-cold over the keys, his heart having just begun to thunder in his chest. He sat back in his chair, straining his ears to pick up the rest of the conversation that was taking place in the hallway.
"Olivia Greene," another voice completed. "I saw some of her work at some rinky-dink gallery last year. It's unreal material, very expressive, as you say."
"That's the one! This is apparently going to be her big break. The Hartley Gallery doesn't just exhibit anybody, you know."
