As Tristan moved, Evelyn came into full view, her eyes icy and filled with disdain.
Janice couldn’t help but shiver in response.
Tristan and Evelyn entered the house together, and Evelyn wasted no time with small talk.
‘Where are my father’s ashes?’ she demanded, her gaze scanning the living room, but finding no sign of the urn.
‘Don’t worry. They are in a safe place,’ Janice replied with a phoney smile.
‘Why can’t you let the dead rest in peace? Here’s the marriage certificate you wanted to see,’ Tristan interjected, producing the certificate from his pocket, proving the marriage between Evelyn and him.
Janice snatched the certificate, examining it closely and even taking pictures with her phone.
‘Congratulations!’ she beamed at Evelyn. ‘Now that your marriage is official, how about helping us pay off the two hundred million dollar debt our family owes? Once we get through this crisis, I promise to give your father a proper burial.’
