Rainey blanched visibly. ‘I don’t know what you are talking about. I’m just trying to—’
‘Sure, if my company folds, everything will be auctioned off,’ Kieran continued. ‘But who knows how long that’s going to take? Two weeks, two months, two years? You can’t afford to take that risk, can you?’
Rainey smiled stiffly. ‘I just thought we could work out a deal that benefits both of us. Why must you be so confrontational?’
Kieran spread out both hands. ‘I just thought we could work better with the truth. Why must you be so deceptive?’
Rainey shot to her feet. ‘Are you mocking me?’
Behind her, the two bodyguards stepped forward, flanking her.
Kieran shrugged. ‘I’m just stating the obvious.’
Rainey clutched her handbag. ‘Maybe you haven’t realised how much trouble your company’s in. I’ll give you some time to think it over. Your only hope of survival lies with me. I hope you’ll come to the right conclusion. When you do, call me.’
She left after dropping that weak threat.
