Broken Promises
I almost wanted to take back what I said.
‘You don’t know?’ Conor finally spoke. ‘You really have no idea what you did wrong?’
I sat with my knees pressed together to stop them from shaking. ‘I really don’t.’
‘Why didn’t you wait for me?’
‘Huh?’ I was puzzled. ‘Wait for you? For what? What are you talking about?’
‘You got married the day after graduation.’
‘Um, I did. I don’t see how—’
‘To Landon. You married Landon Ashford, of all people.’
‘I don’t understand.’
‘You didn’t wait for me.’
I gaped at him, stunned.
‘I asked you to wait for me. You didn’t. You broke your promise.’ He rose, came to stand in front of me.
Our knees were almost touching.
I shifted in my seat. ‘I don’t understand.’
‘You promised you’d wait for me to come back, to marry me. The day you graduated from college, I was there, in the crowd.’
My head snapped up, eyes widening. ‘What? I never saw you.’
‘Of course you didn’t.’ He sneered. ‘You were too happy and busy getting a ring put on your finger by Landon Ashford.
