Conor drew his brows together, puffed away on his cigarette, looking annoyed and lost in thought.
When his face was almost obscured behind a veil of blue smoke, he looked up at Kieran. ‘Now that you’ve found your wife, time for the two of you to beat it. I’ve got things to do.’
I didn’t want to stay a moment longer than necessary, but Eimile was still in the bathroom.
I couldn’t just leave her here.
I was about to go knock on the bathroom door when it opened.
Eimile came out wrapped in a terry cloth robe, a towel draped over her head.
‘Come with me,’ I said. ‘I’ve got some clothes you can wear.’
She shook her head. ‘Thanks, but you guys go ahead. I’ll catch up with you later.’
‘You are staying here?’ Kieran asked from the doorway.
‘I’ve got things to do.’
It struck me that she said the exact same thing as Conor did a minute ago.
She ran a hand through her luxuriant dark hair, still damp from the shower, then aimed a withering look at Conor.
He sneered in response.
