I looked at him with bewilderment. "What does this mean?"
Kingsley glanced at me impatiently. "It's from a client. I have no use for it."
A memory surged within me: last year, someone else had gifted him a pair of expensive cat's eye earrings. Kingsley had tossed them to me, and I had been elated, cherishing them so much that I lost them at a party, causing me days of heartache and earning Kingsley's mocking disdain.
Little did he know that I treasured them because they were his gift to me.
Now, reflecting on it, those earrings were merely a discardable possession to Kingsley—something he had casually given away without a second thought.
