The rest of the ride passed in tense silence, the brothers occasionally exchanging barbed comments that Nia didn't fully understand. By the time they pulled up to Leon's building, she was more than ready to escape the confines of the car.
"Thanks for the ride, Justin," Nia said as they got out.
Justin winked at her. "Anytime, sweetheart. Don't be a stranger, yeah?"
As Justin drove away, Leon let out a long breath. "I'm sorry about that. I should have known he'd find out somehow."
Nia shook her head. "It's fine. Maybe it's better this way. Keep him close, you know?"
Leon nodded, leading her into the building. The doorman greeted them warmly, and they rode the elevator up to the penthouse in companionable silence.
As Leon unlocked the door, Nia gasped. The penthouse was stunning, all floor-to-ceiling windows and modern furnishings. "Wow," she breathed.
Leon chuckled. "Make yourself at home. I'm going to make some calls, arrange for extra security."
