Next, she turned her attention to the computer on the desk. It was password protected, of course. Nia considered trying to hack it but decided against it. She didn't have the time or the skills to do it without leaving traces.
Here, finally, she felt she might find something of interest. The desk was covered in papers – bills, correspondence, and what looked like legal documents related to Jason's case. Nia's hands shook as she sifted through them, her eyes scanning for anything relevant.
In the bottom drawer of the desk, buried under a stack of old magazines, Nia found a small leather-bound journal. Her heart raced as she flipped it open, only to find most of the pages blank. The few entries that were there seemed mundane – appointments, reminders, nothing incriminating.
