CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FOUR – YET ANOTHER FRUSTRATION
As she closed the door and turned to face her waterlogged apartment, Nia felt the full weight of her decision crashing down on her. She sank to the floor, back against the door, and buried her face in her hands.
For the first time since leaving Tarrytown, she allowed herself to cry.
The next morning, Nia stood outside the imposing glass edifice of Philly Brand Builders, smoothing down her slightly wrinkled blouse. After a night spent on her damp couch, she felt far from prepared for this interview, but she couldn't afford to reschedule. Taking a deep breath, she pushed through the revolving doors and into the sleek lobby.
"Good morning," she said to the receptionist, trying to inject confidence into her voice. "I'm Nia Moreno, here for an interview with Sarah Martinez."
The receptionist nodded, tapping at her computer. "Yes, Ms. Moreno. Please take a seat. Ms. Martinez will be with you shortly."
Nia perched on the edge of a modern white leather chair, her knee bouncing nervously.
