Chapter 09

DIANA's perspective I have been working hard for the pack and this was how he decides to pay me, after everything that I have done? The crowning ceremony was a couple of days away and he’s going to make her, a human girl his Luna? He was choosing her over me. It’s been just a few days she has been here and Neon has completely forgotten about me. His affection for her grows stronger by the day, how he talks about her and the way he calls her name. I thought he would one day, look at me that way, call me his Luna, and accept me as his chosen mate. But. I was nothing to him, the years we had spent together building and straightening the pack meant nothing to him, all that matters is his mate, a silly human. The leverage I have over her is that she’s human, she could not stand a chance against me who has the blood of a Beta and a strong wolf. My father died while protecting Neon, that was how I was chosen to be his Luna. I have lived with Neon ever since, I know everything about the pack and what it takes to be that perfect Luna. The pack will not accept her and she will be forced to leave or killed. She can’t come into Neon’s life and ruin everything, all the plans that I have for years, and the dreams of being the only woman in Neon’s life. My hands clenched tightly at my side and Neon wasn’t able to see them, with a faux smile plastered on my face, I went on to ask. “Aria is her name, isn't it?” “Yes.” “She has a pretty name.” “I know.” His lips curved upward, almost catching the smile on his face before it disappeared as if it was never there. I gritted my teeth together and slowly stood up from the chair. “I trust you are going to do a good job, Diana. She doesn’t know about our world or that she’s my mate. I want her to be mentally prepared for it and I want to be the one to tell her. I trust you, Ana.” “Yes, I will treat her well.” My voice shook but he failed to notice it. I took my lips in and breathed out heavily, I bowed slightly, with my hands gripping tightly to my pantsuit. I held back the tears in my eyes and restrained them from falling. I strutted out of the study room. ‘Do a good job?’ I scoffed when I was outside his study room. I wiped the tears from the corner of my eyes. Does he think he’s going to do whatever he wants? I am not going to let that happen, I wouldn’t let him bring ruins to the pack. Before Neon was Alpha, my father told me a wolf was killed because he fell for a human. What would the pack members think when they know that their Alpha has a human as a mate? I was walking past the hallway when I saw the door of her room was slightly opened because Silas had come out of it. I stood outside the door and stared at her through the small openings, a red-brown hair, that fell on her shoulders. The features of her face were beautiful, I never felt so intimidated by her looks. She was eating, and the other hand was handcuffed to the bed. She must have tried to escape that’s why Neon had her hands handcuffed. When I heard Neon running around the house, it must have been because of her. There was no other reason Neon would do that, even if the pack was on fire. He won’t leave his study. She lifted her head and our eyes met, big brown glittering eyes, I drew my lips into a thin line and pushed the door slowly. She swallowed the food in her mouth and wiped the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand. “You must be Aria.” I strolled to the bed. While stealing glances at the room, this was my first time stepping into this room. It was bigger than mine and decorated beautifully like some Disney Princess. I scoffed. How could Neon be this sweet? He sure has spent a lot of time making sure this room is the best in the house. He must have been waiting for this day, the thought of it irked me. “Can I sit with you?” “Yes, please. Do you want some dessert? The grumpy guy brought them. I don’t mind sharing.” I chuckled. “You mean Silas.” She smiled. I hate her effortlessly beautiful she looked with a smile on her face. I shook my head vigorously. “Thanks for the offer, I wonder why he had your hand handcuffed, that must have hurt.” “It does hurt.” She started at the hand when I made mention of it. “Were you kidnapped as well? And forced to live here?” “I don’t want to talk about that, I have adapted to the house and...” I faked a sad voice. “It’s not been easy.” And let out an exasperated sigh. “He would continue to hurt you if you don’t find a way out of here. Nobody knows what he might do to you. Master Neon is like that.” “I know there was something off about him, the way his eyes changed and how dangerous he looked.” I lent a hand to her, and we took the tray off her body and dropped it at the edge of the bed. She clasped her hand on mine. “You should find a way to get out of here, you can’t stay here. He would do terrific things to you.” I sobbed, faking a cry. “He’s not as he seems, he’s not the kind of man you want to be with.” I dabbed the tears from my eyes and sniffed. “Seeing you this way hurts me, it reminds me of an awful past that I want to forget. I will find a way for you to leave this place.” “Why are you helping me?” Her voice croaked. “I don’t want you to go through what I did.” My hand patted her hair and pulled her into a hug. I smirked when I was behind her. She was being nice or just stupid? “We can leave together.” She whispered behind my ears. “Though I don’t have anyone waiting for me when I get home, it doesn’t seem right that we stay here. I found this place quite suspicious, he said he does business. It is probably a deadly business. Is he a kidnapper?” I couldn’t hold back my laugh. If that’s what she thinks of Neon, I have no plan on changing her thoughts of him. “I will help you, Aria.” “How did you know my name?” Her face held a baffled look. “Master Neon told me about it, I asked him who was the girl he kept in that room and he told me it was you. That’s why I came here to see you.” I smiled. “I didn’t know how to approach you that’s why I was peeping through the door.” “You can see me as a friend.” She nodded and returned my smile. I am going to prove to Neon that she isn’t fit to be Luna and that she is no different from the other humans as he claimed. “I can’t bear to see you with that handcuffed on your hand.” “It was because I ran away, that’s why I have them on.” “I’m going to plead with him, so you can take them off and promise him you are not going to run away again.” “How are you going to plead with him? I don’t think he would agree to just anyone.” “He would listen to me if I put in good words for you.” I gave her hand a little squeeze and flashed her a small smile. I would meet with Neon and tell him about his mate, get the key to the handcuffs, and come back to meet her. A little lie won’t hurt. If this is how he wants to have his game played, I would play along.
