84 The Fire Eater Delivers
“You know,” Gavadiol began conversationally as they began to lay fires about as quickly as possible. “I never got to see you perform anymore.”
Konstantin grinned. “Thanks to the Shadow Hunters for cutting short our show in Lochley.” His smile became a little wistful. “That was supposed to be a real money spinner, you know.”
“Sad occurrence,” the prince agreed. “Really sad.”
As the fires spread around the base of the mountain, everyone waited with bated breath for something, anything. In truth, as it was only Gavadiol who had seen the portal back at the river, they did not know what to expect. Many even doubted if anything would happen at all. Lara, indeed all of them kept looking up at the mountain in apprehension.
“There won’t be time to keep traversing round the base of this mountain on foot,” Gavadiol said at last. “I’m going to go get my horse. Then I want the rest of you on your horses and at a safe distance away. I'll do this alone. No need to risk your lives.”
