Another chimed in, "Mr. Palmer, I made this birthday card. I even drew our orphanage inside it!"
"Ms. Caddel, don't feel left out," said a third kid. "You have a gift too. I folded an entire jar of little stars for you."
"I made a bracelet for you. Look, Ms. Caddel!" a fourth kid exclaimed.
My heart softened as I reached out to pat their heads. "Thank you, kids. I love the gifts you made for me."
The moment I finished speaking, Juliette said cheerfully from a few paces away, "You kids are amazing! I can't believe you made me so many gifts."
Paul stood nearby, watching the scene unfold with a warm smile. Then, his expression shifted, and he turned to me. "Joshua, it's been years. You need to let go. If you can't let go of the past, how will you ever move forward?"
His words made me tighten my grip on the gifts. I opened my mouth to respond but couldn't find the right words.
