"You're going to stick to your end of the bargain, right?" I asked as she and Charles stepped into the hospital.
I was rushing, but Charles walked with slow, steady steps as if he had all the time in the world to hand over the cure.
"I will keep my end of the bargain," he said, smiling reassuringly. "Have I ever lied to you about things like this?"
I snorted. "Considering what you're capable of, I wouldn't trust you to be true to your word all the time."
"You're making me look like the bad guy," he said with a slight chuckle.
I almost laughed at that. Did Charles still consider himself a good person after everything he'd done? He was the devil incarnate. Still, I kept that to myself—he was unpredictable.
He could easily change his mind and withhold the cure if I said anything that annoyed him. He had nothing to lose.
