“Josephine, no texting on company time. Whatever it is, it can wait till your lunch break.”
She lowered her phone just enough so our eyes could meet. “It can’t, though. I need to wish my grandbabies a happy birthday early, or they’ll think Abuela has forgotten.”
“Grandbabies?”
“Twins, identical too,” she announced proudly before going back to slowly typing on her phone.
Shit.
I’d completely forgotten that the next day was the birthday of Oslin’s daughter. It was only as she mentioned it that I remembered it and also the fact that I would not be able to make it.
“Get back to work after that,” I said as I resumed my walk back to my office.
“Alright, I left some files on your table,” she called after me, “…and I need them back before lunch.”
I shut the door, shrugged off my suit jacket, and then loosened my tie before moving to sit down.
