“Sir, there’s a bleached blonde lady with a really bad spray tan out there to see you.”
I paused mid-writing and glanced up at my new secretary.
“Josephine, what did I say about knocking first?”
The older woman chuckled as she raised a hand to adjust her glasses.
“I’m old, Mr. Callaghan. I don’t remember things very well.”
“Then you shouldn’t be working at all.”
“Oh, I would resign, but you need me around here,” she replied with a kind smile. “So, should I let her in or call security?”
I sighed as I dropped the pen. “Let her in.”
“Where does Ray find all these crazy people?” I murmured to myself after she drew back and soundlessly shut the door.
I liked her, though. She knew how to do her job and was effortlessly hilarious. Plus, she wasn’t throwing herself at me and making things awkward.
