“R… Rose…” I choked out, sobbing, after dialing her number.
“Oh, Jass, are you okay?” Rose’s alarmed voice came through the other side of the phone.
“No, Rose, I’m not. My entire life is a mess. Everything… Mav is… I don’t even know…” My voice cracked, the words heavy in my throat, a physical ache in my chest. It was too much.
“Where are you?” she asked. Where was I? I didn’t even know. I turned, taking in my surroundings. After storming out of Mav’s house, I’d wandered aimlessly, leaving everything behind—wallet, clothes, everything but my phone.
“I’m near the city park…” I sniffed, my head throbbing.
“Okay, stay put, Jasmine. I’m on my way.” I heard the clink of keys, the rustle of movement. She was running.
“Sure… Thanks, Rose,” I whispered, before ending the call and sinking onto a nearby bench.
