Gary spoke with such gloom in his voice.
I tried cheering him up, saying, "Don't worry. We'll make more crafts in the future. Losing one isn't the end of the world, right?"
"Really?" He looked at me with childlike hope.
I nodded.
"Okay, I'll listen to you, Mommy." He burrowed into my arms, gently rubbing his head against me.
"Mommy, I'm sorry," he said.
"Why are you apologizing?"
"I didn't mean to push Charlie. He broke our craft, and I was just so mad I shoved him."
"That's not your fault. He shouldn't have done that," I said, ruffling his hair. But my mind wandered back to Charlie, which left me a little unsettled.

That evening, Lucas came home and called Gary into his room for a talk. I was worried he might scold Gary, so I explained everything in detail. "He did nothing wrong."
Lucas hesitated for a second but still went inside with Gary.
I sighed, feeling like I couldn't interfere any further. Then, I went to take a shower.
