Chapter 12 I'm Living in My Wife's Home Now
"I shouldn't have taken it anyway."
Hua Sheng was very self-aware by nature. Since it was a symbolic marriage... how could she accept their money?
She knew that the credit card had a very high spending limit.
Jiang Liu glanced at the card in his hand before returning it back to Hua Sheng.
"Keep it. It's a common practice for parents to give their new daughter-in-law a sum of money once she's officially recognized them as her own... They're generous people. I believe that the card's spending limit should be around one million dollars."
Hua Sheng was truly shocked. One million dollars was a huge sum of money!
"It's too much! They should just have given me a symbolic sum... Why don't you keep it? You can give me a few thousand to that effect."
"Are you implying that the Jiangs lack money?" he asked her yet again.
Hua Sheng was speechless...
"Yeah, yeah, I get it. You Jiangs are rich; all of you are so rich that the whole world knows that you people are loaded..."
She did not bother to continue debating him on the subject. Instead, she turned around and sat down at the dresser to remove her ear studs.
They were in a room usually prepared for Jiang Liu when he came back to the family home. Their wedding had gone through so quickly that there wasn't even enough time to prepare a bridal suite for them.
As such, they could only spend the night here.
"I'm about to remove my makeup and go to bed. Why haven't you left?" Hua Sheng asked the image of the man in her mirror.
"Leave? I'm your beloved husband, why should I leave?" Jiang Liu asked cheerfully.
"We're not a real married couple."
"We have to stay together for three years, however. What would my parents think if we stayed in separate bedrooms on the very night of our marriage? We're in my family home, for goodness sake."
It left Hua Sheng speechless.
She had indeed been callous, but she could not be blamed.
She had spent nearly all of her life with her grandmother in their home on Mount Zhongcui.
She rarely left the mountain and had not been in contact with many men, so it was only natural that she would panic a little upon realizing that she had to spend the night in the same room as a man.
"Where are Peach and Gingko?" She changed the subject to avoid making things more awkward.
"Are they your nannies?" Jiang Liu asked, recalling the two attendants.
The Fifth Young Mistress of the Hua Family traveled everywhere with the two young ladies, who were of about the same age as her.
They followed her closely everywhere and attended to her needs. Somehow, they gave the impression that they were pretty skillful.
"One of them is boiling some soup for you downstairs, while the other said that she had been ordered back home. I've asked my driver to send her back to the Hua residence."
Another moment of silence followed...
Hua Sheng removed her makeup in silence. Jiang Liu, on the other hand, stood beside her and looked on curiously.
He thought that she would look somewhat less beautiful without makeup.
Little did he expect that Hua Sheng's skin complexion was amazing—she seemed to be glowing. She was also in the prime of her life, and her skin was still full of collagen.
She had a pair of beautiful eyes with shiny black pupils. They were so bright that, to Jiang Liu, they seemed to be filled with small stars.
Hua Sheng got up after removing her makeup and picked up a nightgown that she had prepared earlier on.
"Are you sleeping on the bed or the floor?" she asked Jiang Liu with a temperate look in her eyes.
"The bed, of course," Jiang Liu purposely said.
Hua Sheng was evidently curious. She was momentarily stunned by his reply.
"What kind of man is this? Would any guy be so dumb and allow a lady to sleep on the floor? How ungentlemanly."
She was getting angry with him, but she forced herself to keep calm and not act up.
"I'll lay the mattress down on the floor then," she replied, nodding.
She then picked the nightgown up and went into the washroom to change.
Jiang Liu reclined his body on the chaise lounge in the room and rubbed his chin. He felt extremely intrigued by what happened earlier.
"I'm going to move to the Ripple Pavilion of the Villa of Abundant Youth tomorrow. My grandmother left me an oriental-style villa there," she said after changing.
"So... do I have to move in with you?" Jiang Liu asked.
"Do as you see fit," she muttered.
"Well, well... So I have to move into my wife's house after all?" He continued teasing her.
