Everyone around me continued to flatter Connor, yet no one stood up for me. It seemed like only their best interests and what they could get in return were important to them. There was no room for morals and values.
With employees like this, the company was probably heading for disaster.
I said, "Don't you want a divorce, Kiara? I can grant you that—but I have one condition."
Kiara looked at me disdainfully. "Just tell me what your condition is. I can give it to you—whether it's a house or money."
I smiled and shook my head. "I just want to say—don't come crying to me after the divorce."
Kiara assumed I was still clinging to her, and her tone grew even more mocking. "Whoever regrets it is a loser. Is that enough for you?"
Seeing her smug look, any last bit of goodwill I had toward the Gibsons completely vanished.
