Chapter 1 Please Save The Juhls
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable, please try again later..."
The call sounded for the millionth time as Lindsey Juhl squatted by the roadside helplessly, clutching her phone.
Lindsey turned her head to look at the Guggenheim Tower behind her and thought about the words her mother said over the phone this morning, “If you can't get Zayn Guggenheim to help us, you will be disowned from the Juhl family!”
In the end, Lindsey strode in the office tower with gritted teeth.
"Miss, may I ask who you are looking for?"
"I'm looking for Zayn Guggenheim."
"President Guggenheim?"
The receptionist looked at the visitor with a professional smile on her face and continued, "Do you have an appointment?"
Lindsey pressed her lips together and said hesitantly, "...I'm his wife."
The receptionist froze and asked her to wait for a moment as she made a call using the desk phone.
Lindsey Juhl was a little nervous -- ever since the Juhl family forced Zayn to marry her three years ago due to their relationship with his grandfather, all he had felt for her was disgust!
Marrying her ruined his chance to be with his true love!
During these two years of marriage, they had only met a few times when they visited Zayn’s grandfather at the mansion. Aside from that, Zayn avoided her as much as he could.
"Sorry, President Guggenheim said he doesn't have a wife."
The receptionist's voice pulled Lindsey Juhl back to reality.
Lindsey's face instantly turned red with embarrassment as she stuttered, "Sorry, my mistake. I just have something urgent for him. Can you let me see him for a moment? I won't be long..."
"Sorry, I’m afraid I can’t let you up without an appointment. I hope you understand."
The surrounding people kept looking over as if laughing at her foolishness for posing as the president's wife. Their mocking gazes were like daggers piercing through her, making her so embarrassed that she could not lift her head.
The receptionist had no intention to attend to her further, so Lindsey bit down on her lips and made up her mind. She picked up her bag and rushed inside!
"Miss! You can't go in!"
"Security! Stop her!"
At that moment, the elevator door opened with a chime. Lindsey rushed in without looking and before she knew it, she bumped into someone’s embrace.
"P-President!"
Lindsey’s chest constricted and suddenly she felt a chill in the air.
The people behind her who were clamoring to catch her stood quietly at the back and did not dare to make a sound.
Lindsey carefully lifted her head and saw Zayn Guggenheim’s chiseled face holding an icy expression. The black suit he was wearing accentuated his coldness. A group of top management stood behind him without saying a word, scrutinizing the woman who carelessly rushed into the elevator.
"Move it!"
Lindsey's body trembled as she hurriedly lowered her head and stepped back.
There was a flurry of footsteps from Zayn walking out of the elevator surrounded by people. He passed by her without a glance and did not care about her existence.
As the group was about to leave the building, Lindsey did not care about anything else but reaching him. She quickly rushed forward before it was too late. Zayn was about to step foot outside when he felt a tug on his sleeve.
"Zayn...I know you don't want to see me, but I have no other choice. The Juhl family is facing bankruptcy and I came to beg you. Please save my family! Please...for the sake of our families' friendship all these years..."
In the large lobby, onlookers were curious about the woman who was crying in public. They were all thinking of how bold she was to tug on the president's arm in public.
Zayn Guggenheim's gaze landed on the woman or to be precise, his wife that he had only met a few times since they got married. His eyes darkened.
"Mr. Guggenheim, I’ve done my best and complied with all your rules for the past two years...please help us..."
Zayn’s tone was icy and the words he spitted out made Lindsey feel as if she had plunged into icy depths.
"The Juhls? Who are they? And who are you?"
