Chapter 6 No One Can Predict the Future

Gerald sneered, "Your virginity isn't worth that much." Unconvinced, Rosalynn recalled the way she moaned in pleasure last night. She thought she sounded pretty charming. "Then what's it for?" she asked. Gerald replied, "It's for a breakup." Rosalynn's smile was casual. "Mr. Higgins, we are not a couple yet." Gerald glared at her. The woman was delusional. He thought. With a cold voice, he stated overbearingly, "If you break up with Nathan, the money's yours." Rosalynn clicked her tongue. "That's not enough." Gerald raised an eyebrow. "I should know a bold woman like you must be greedy." Rosalynn tightened her grip on the check. She couldn't bear to let go. "Uncle Gerald, after I marry Nathan, I'll have more than this." Gerald nodded. "But unfortunately, you're not worthy to be his wife." He continued, "My sister despises you. You are not good enough for the Lambert family." Gerald didn't want to beat around the bush. Unconcerned, Rosalynn toyed with her diamond ring. "But Nathan proposed to me." Gerald chuckled coldly. "You're well aware he's just trying to placate you." "He just wants to get you into bed with him." Gerald was straightforward, so Rosalynn stopped playing games with him. A seductive smile gracing her face, she accepted the check and put it into her purse under Gerald's gaze. Just as Gerald smirked, thinking she understood her position, she spoke with arrogance. "If I don't marry Nathan, how about you marry me, Uncle Gerald?" It would be interesting to be Nathan's aunt. She thought. "Marry you?" Gerald snorted, his eyes full of disdain, "Quit daydreaming!" He knew Rosalynn approached Nathan with ulterior purposes, and she was doing the same with him. He hooked up with her for fun. Yet, she dared to delude herself into becoming Mrs. Higgins? Rosalynn saw the disdain in Gerald's eyes. She didn't want to waste more time. She smiled and said, "Since you can't offer better conditions, I'll take this check as payment for my virginity. And just so you know, I won't break up with Nathan." Gerald crossed his arms, casting a condescending gaze upon her. "Rosalynn, do you genuinely believe you have a chance to marry into the Lambert family?" Rosalynn shrugged indifferently. "No one can predict the future, right, Uncle Gerald?" Gerald snorted, "Foolish woman." He stood up from his seat and straightened his suit, his tone filled with cold arrogance, "Rosalynn, you'll soon pay the price for your greed." At the Hyatt Palace. Vince, the third son of the Fuller family, organized a gathering to celebrate his 28th birthday. As one of Vince's close friends, Gerald arrived at the club as agreed, though a bit late. When Gerald arrived, Vince and his group were already having a blast. Seeing the man show up late, Vince punished him with three shots of absinthe. Gerald downed all three, and cheers erupted from the crowd. With three shots of absinthe down his throat, Gerald couldn't help but feel his body heating up, instinctively loosening his collar. Vince, sharp-eyed, immediately spotted the marks on Gerald's collarbone. "Bro!" He slightly lifted Gerald's suit and examined his body with great surprise, "Your wife's back? You two made up?" Gerald calmly pried Vince's hand away and tidied himself up without changing his expression. "No." Vince couldn't believe it. Gerald, who had always been abstinent and restrained, was actually fooling around with another woman? "Then who left these marks?" Gerald didn't answer. He reached for a glass of champagne to wash away the taste of wormwood in his mouth. Vince was really curious. All of Gerald's friends were aware of his profound love for Kathleen Palmer. Vince wondered who could have captured Gerald's attention in such a way. "Must be a charming woman." Gerald finished the champagne in one gulp. "It was an average experience with her, but she's not bad-looking." Vince understood, a mischievous smile appearing on his face. He patted Gerald's shoulder. Then he picked up two glasses of red wine and handed them to Gerald. When Gerald reached out his left hand to take the glasses, he found that his cufflink was missing, his expression changing slightly. "Where's the cufflink?" Vince knew the cufflinks were designed by Kathleen and he immediately understood why Gerald wore a gloomy face. Those cufflinks were a token of love between Gerald and Kathleen. Gerald would wear them on important occasions. Now he touched his left cuff, silent in contemplation. He had only worn this suit once at Nathan and Rosalynn's engagement party… In the Pinecrest Estate. Rosalynn was tidying up the bedding when something fell to the ground with a click. She bent down to pick it up and found it was an exquisite cufflink. It was made entirely of diamonds, quite valuable, with an irregular letter "K" in the center. The cufflink seemed to carry significant meaning. Judging by its quality, Rosalynn knew whose it was. Knock, knock! Urgent knocking sounds came from the door. Someone knocked so hard and the door was almost dismantled. Rosalynn was wearing a black strap nightgown. Hearing the knocking, she didn't even have time to put on her coat before hurrying out. She looked through the peephole and saw Gerald standing outside with a serious expression. A mischievous smile played on Rosalynn's lips. She opened the door, greeting him warmly, "Uncle Gerald, it's so late. What brings you here?"
