Chapter 100 My Son Won't Let You off the Hook
"We're here to take you with us," the officer declared.
Laura struggled vehemently, "If something happens to me, my son won't let you off the hook once he's free."
Pierce felt a growing headache. He did not want his mother to continue her brazen defiance in the police station. It was tolerable at home but inappropriate here.
He was not surprised by their month-long detention, understanding the reasons without needing to think deeply.
"Mom, please stop talking," Pierce pleaded. "A week in the dark could drive anyone crazy. You're not getting any younger; it'd be too hard on you. Let's just stay quiet."
Still seething from the confrontation at Charlotte's house earlier that evening, Laura could not calm down. 'How could that family do something so hurtful to an elderly person?' she thought.
Adolph rubbed his forehead wearily, pondering how to endure the long month ahead. "Your son is right; please stop. Have you forgotten that we will be detained for a month?" he said.
