CHAPTER 25: FALSE RUMORS
It is indeed true that a lot of people do not value what they have until it is gone. That was exactly the situation George found himself in. Never in his life had he imagined a world where Lauretta wasn't beside him. He had never imagined she would ever stop loving him or even leave him, but as he stared down at the signed and stamped divorce papers, he knew it was over.
They were done. She hadn't even given him as much as a glance as they both walked out of the family court in Bracknell. He had wanted very much to ask her what her next move was, but the look on her face made it quite clear that she did not want to be disturbed by anyone, especially not by him.
He never saw or heard from her again after that day. It was as if she had disappeared, and now he was seated in his office, plagued by the memories of parts of their marriage that he had failed to cherish before.
Of course, she didn't literally vanish. George simply had no idea where she went or who she was in contact with.
