CHAPTER 139: CHASE HER IF YOU LIKE HER
The atmosphere was tense. George, usually smooth around women, was stumbling over his words introducing himself to Lauretta. Frederick nudged him, silently asking what was up. What was it about Lauretta that had George so flustered?
"Um, yeah," George stuttered, a faint blush creeping up his neck. "The, uh, divorce. Makes things a bit...awkward, you know?"
Frederick let out a relieved chuckle. So that was the deal. No new romantic interest, just post-divorce awkwardness. "Good save," he muttered under his breath.
But Lauretta remained a mystery. Her response to George's greeting was a blunt, "Don't know you," delivered with a cold stare that sent shivers down Frederick's spine. The warmth that had initially drawn him in had disappeared completely.
An uncomfortable silence filled the room, broken only by the sound of Juliana discreetly scuffing her shoe against the floor. Their usual playful banter had vanished, replaced by tension so thick it practically screamed their secret.
