Chapter 36
A series of tapping rang out. The sea spider from earlier returned, its front limbs still showing traces of Eryndor's reddish-gold blood. The culprit behind his injury was back. It was several times his size, yet it froze rigidly in place, seemingly restrained by an invisible force.
He looked up at it lazily. Then, he spread out his chained tail before turning to the sea spider. It was taut as it involuntarily lifted its tough limbs. Then, it plunged a limb precisely through the pierced segment of the chain and yanked downward, tearing the tail straight down the middle.
The chain slid free with a clatter. Despite enduring such horrific pain, Eryndor's lashes merely fluttered in response. He remained calm, looking like he wasn't in pain at all.
The sea spider wanted to leave inconspicuously after completing its task, but an invisible force seized control of its will. Its six pitch-black eyes rolled once before he crawled toward the endless darkness of the pool.
