Chapter 136
In the last two minutes, Ashley's voice sounded in Nathan's ears.
"Hello? Is the signal patchy? Why can't I hear you?"
Nathan had wandered into the shadows. Yet, he hoped that Ashley could always live in the sun.
He wanted Ashley to stay peaceful and happy in a future without him. He didn't want her to investigate his death, as that could get her into trouble.
What was that line of lyrics that came before the start of Ashley's ringtone?
Nathan hummed the tune.
"I think it's time to say goodbye.
Like a seagull leaving the endless tide,
Spreading my wings to touch the sky…"
His journey would come to a stop here. Ashley would make the rest of the long journey.
"Why aren't you speaking?" Ashley mumbled to herself, "Is it a butt dial?"
Nathan wanted Ashley to move on and never look back.
"Can't you hear me?"
He did not want Ashley to know the truth. He'd rather she never look for him.
"Nat, I don't care whether or not you could hear me."
She seemed to have tapped on her phone.
